Shades of Plato began life in 2011, formed by masked miserablists Ol’ Dirty Flute and Captain Black, two intransigents with a shared love of new wave and classic rock and a penchant for dressing up – mainly in black. Early experiments with flute, sax, fender bass and electronica culminated in the release of the Bootstrapping EP in 2014 and the epic, uplifting trance of the Symposia single in 2015.
The glorious addition in 2016 of glum guitarist Jack Sorrow and the vivacious Pandora on drums has brought those underlying rock influences to the fore, as demonstrated on the ensuing double A sided single Somebody Famous Has Died (topical or what?) coupled with Arrhythmia. It has also enabled the band to perform live for the first time whilst recording continues for a debut album release scheduled for June, 2017.
Expect big, melodic riffs, industrial bass, concussive percussion and a peppering of flute in a nicely balanced set of dynamic, original material that’s a little bit goth, a little bit glam, but always unique. Come, join our masquerade!
